Auckland Recommendations

If you’re coming from overseas you might want to combine your visit to Auckland with a New Zealand holiday, so we’ve included links to some of our favourite holiday spots as well as links to our preferred service providers.

Preferred Accommodation – Domain Lodge

This 4 Star plus qualmark motor lodge is ideally placed in peaceful garden surroundings opposite the Auckland Domain and Auckland City Hospital where the AirwaySkills course is held. Domain Lodge is on a regular bus route to the city and has easy access to Auckland’s motorways. The Units are serviced daily and there is a 24-hr reception. Internet facilities are available.

Getting Around

It is easy to catch a taxi or shuttle from the airport in Auckland, and these are readily available when you land. You can also book shuttles online here. If you are wanting to hire a car, visit the Thrifty website to book a car that you can pick up at the airport.


Ponsonby, Parnell or Auckland’s Viaduct are all great places to eat, offering a range of cuisines and many alfresco settings. Sky City in the CBD is home to many well-known chef’s restaurants; including Al Brown’s Depot and Peter Gordon’s The Sugar Club, which boasts one of the best views of Auckland, located at the top of the Sky Tower.


A must do whilst in Auckland is explore the islands of the Hauraki Gulf. From walking to the summit of the volcanic island Rangitoto, to visiting the wildlife sanctuary on Tiritiri Matangi, there is something for everyone. Waiheke is only half an hour ferry ride away and is home to many beautiful beaches and dozens of vineyards, making it the perfect place for a wine tour.
